Just 2 ˝ miles from I-5 and downtown Kalama, Washington

House Picture

This 2540 square foot single level home set on professionally landscaped 2.6 acres has a spectacular view of the Columbia River (only visible from the house and deck not the road) and the hills of Oregon.  There is a private wooded area with towering evergreens interspersed with rhododendrons.  Three ponds – two with docks – give the grounds a park-like feeling along with rolling lawn, flagstone patio and pathway down to the larger pond and gazebo.  The ponds are ablaze with water lilies and other flowering plants.  Block walls enhance the entire property forming gardens and walkways.  The plants, trees and shrubs are absolutely spectacular where various colors have been used to enhance each area.  You must see it to realize the beauty.

There is an RV parking strip with 30/50 amp electrical hookups and water.  The entire property has a sprinkler system and drip system for planters.  There are many water features including a bubbling rock in the front yard, flowing waterfalls, lots of outdoor lighting that can be either set by timer or by dusk to dawn electric eye.  A telescoping flagpole features old glory.

A separate 24 X 24 foot 2-car garage or shop is in addition to the 2-car garage attached to the house.  Both are completely finished on the inside with insulation, sheetrock, and painted.  Both have an automatic garage door as well as a regular door entry.  There are also additional features such as 220 V. heat, lots of light fixtures and plenty of electrical outlets.

As featured in the Longview Daily News, this house was designed to be maintenance free.  The house, garage and shop all have white vinyl siding that looks and feels like wood. There is a 12 X 44 foot vinyl deck, a vinyl gazebo, a 3-rail vinyl fence, 2 vinyl docks, and a vinyl trellis that is covered with a glorious clematis.  The only thing that will ever need painting outside is the fascia trim of a teal green.  A metal arbor holds a wisteria of three braided colors – white, lavender and purple.

The home has a gourmet kitchen with a huge walk-in pantry.  The green tile wrapped counters are spacious with a cooking island, double ovens, double sink with septic disposal and instant hot water.  There is a separate bar sink with a U-Line icemaker.  The light oak cabinets are plentiful and spacious.  Another built-in china cabinet and buffet in the breakfast room gives additional storage.  There are built-in cabinets with bookcases in the den.

Many custom features such as the two-sided gas fireplace with marble facing and oak mantles in the great room and master sitting room, a tile entry and tile front porch, lovely etched and leaded glass windows on either side of the front door, built-in cabinets in the laundry room, custom drapes and padded cornices plus many more give this home a warmth enhanced by a large round window in the great room.  A round wall and breakfast counter with stools divide the kitchen and the great room.  Exquisite lighting fixtures along with eyeball spots in the 11-foot ceilings give the feeling of spaciousness and light.  The kitchen, great room, breakfast room, dining room and den/office are all open, but still give the feeling of separate rooms through the use of pillars and beams.

Three spacious bedrooms with walk-in closets (two huge ones in the master bedroom) each have a special view of the beautifully landscaped yard.  The master bath has a double vanity, jetted tub, lots of storage, a large tile shower with glass doors and tile floor.  The second bathroom has a standard tub with glass doors.  Sliding glass doors from both the breakfast room and the master sitting room enter onto the deck.

The house contains two water heaters, two furnaces and two heat pumps that keep it warm and cozy in the winter and blissfully cool in the summer.  The septic system is a sand mound system and is especially efficient.  The water is city water from Kalama.

The grounds feature a two-entry driveway and blacktop surface from road to garage and shop.  The area is located on a private paved road with only a few homes located in the area giving you both privacy and security.  There is a sophisticated alarm system and fire alert system with central alarm.  DSL has been installed plus there is also a satellite dish (Dish Network).

It doesn’t stop here.  There is a double attached garage with massive 17-inch deep and 12 feet wide storage shelves on one wall and 30-inch deep and 16 feet wide storage shelves on the back wall, with sliding doors to cover the clutter plus an automatic garage door with additional keypad entry.  The entire garage is finished the same as the house interior and newly painted.  There is a large mud room with a shower, deep sink, toilet and bidet with tile floors and a fold down table.

In the wooded area is an 8 X 12 storage shed painted white to match the house.  Both the house and shed have a zinc cap to prohibit growth of moss.  All electrical and telephone wires are underground.  It is quiet and serene, yet only minutes to the freeway.  The Oregon/Washington border is only 30 miles away for a sophisticated night life and big city amenities.  Woodland to the south is only 9 miles away from Kalama with Safeway and soon a Wal-Mart.  Longview/Kelso is 15 miles to the north with malls, grocery stores galore and beautiful Lake Sacagawea for walking, biking, and other recreational activities.

For those not familiar with this area, Kalama is a small rural town noted primarily for their antique stores.  However, the bank and post office are both professional and friendly and the local market contains most of the regular items you would need for food and beverage.  You will also find the hardware store most accommodating.  Just north a mile there is a lovely RV campground with huge oak trees and the Kalama River running through making it a wonderful fishing spot for salmon. For more sophisticated or unusual items, both of the other areas mentioned above or Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington can supply any of your other needs. The town also has 4 nice restaurants plus the Burger Bar and a Subway.  There is also a local pizza shop which has excellent pizza.  Several other shops round out a lovely little town built at the foothills of the Cascade Mountain range and paralleling the majestic Columbia River.  Several parks are within walking distance of downtown.  It is but a short drive to Mount St. Helens with its interesting sites.

This house must be seen to appreciate all the extra amenities the owners have installed.  Call 360-673-2086 for an appointment to view this spectacular home or for any questions.  No realtors, please.
